Let’s be real for a second: anyone can stick to a diet for a certain amount of time. Maybe it’s worked for you before, or maybe it didn’t, but eventually, there comes a point when the magic fades, and you’re left wondering, “Now what?”
As a holistic nutritionist, I’ve seen this pattern over and over. But here’s the thing: I have never stuck to a certain diet myself, and I’m here to tell you why that’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health and happiness.
First of all, I don’t like feeling restricted. The idea of cutting out certain foods or counting every single calorie just doesn’t sit well with me. I enjoy life, and that means enjoying a glass of wine on a night out with friends or saying “yes” to that piece of cake at a birthday party without a second thought.
What’s life if you can’t enjoy the simple pleasures? Should we really be beating ourselves up over a slice of pizza or a scoop of ice cream? Absolutely not. The key is balance, not deprivation.
And let’s talk about mindset for a moment because it’s everything. How we feel about ourselves, our bodies, and the food we eat plays a huge role in our overall well-being. If you’re constantly fixating on the number on the scale or stressing about fitting into a certain outfit, it’s easy to forget the bigger picture: loving yourself as you are, right now.
This is why I live my life the way I do, and it’s exactly what I want for you too. It’s about loving yourself, finding joy in the little things, and living a life that makes you happy.
So, how do we shift from a diet mentality to a mindset of self-love and enjoyment?
Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how different foods make you feel. Are you energized, sluggish, satisfied, or craving more? Your body knows what it needs—trust it.
Enjoy the Moment: Whether you’re at a celebration or just having dinner at home, savor the experience. Enjoy the flavors, the company, and the memories you’re creating.
Let Go of Guilt: Guilt has no place at the table. If you’ve indulged in something you love, embrace it and move on. Life is too short to stress over a cookie.
Focus on Wellness, Not Weight: Your health is more than a number on the scale. It’s about how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally. Make choices that support your overall wellness, not just your waistline.
Practice Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself. Celebrate your body for all it does for you, and nourish it with foods that make you feel good, not just foods that fit a diet plan.
In the end, it’s about loving yourself, finding joy in the little things, and living a life that makes you happy. Diets come and go, but a healthy mindset lasts a lifetime. So go ahead, enjoy that glass of wine, have a slice of cake, and remember: you deserve to love every bit of your life, just as it is.
