Life has a funny way of throwing us curveballs when we least expect it. One such curveball came crashing into my world when my son, Dylan, was diagnosed with leukemia at the tender age of 18. It was a devastating blow, one that left me grappling with questions that may never have answers.

In the heart of every tragedy lies a story of resilience. I want to share one that's deeply personal to me. In Dylan's short time on this earth, he left an indelible mark—a legacy of strength, courage, and unwavering positivity.

From the moment he was diagnosed, Dylan defied the odds. Never once did he utter the words, "Why me?" Instead, he greeted each day with a smile, a testament to his remarkable spirit. Even as he fought through the pain and uncertainty, his resilience never wavered. It's a question that still lingers in my mind—how did he find such acceptance and peace in the face of such adversity?

As a mother, I often pondered the purpose behind Dylan's journey. Was he sent here to teach us all a lesson? To show us the true meaning of strength and grace? Perhaps.

What I do know is that Dylan touched the lives of everyone he encountered. His unwavering optimism and boundless kindness left an impression that will never fade.

But amidst the tears and heartache, there's a glimmer of solace. Dylan's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. He was a beacon of hope in the darkest of times, a reminder that even in our moments of greatest despair, there is light to be found.

So as I reflect on Dylan's life, I choose to celebrate the moments of joy, the memories that bring a smile to my face. He may be gone, but his spirit remains—a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In the end, perhaps the greatest lesson Dylan taught me was to find beauty in the midst of chaos, to embrace each day with a heart full of gratitude. And for that, I will be forever thankful.

This is how I become to writing a book. My hope is to honor Dylan's memory while inspiring others to embrace grief with the same courage and positivity that he did with his life. May his story serve as a reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is light to be found.

Life may be unpredictable, and the answers may remain elusive. But as long as we hold onto the positives, we can find comfort in knowing that our loved ones' legacies will live on in our hearts forever.

Until we meet again, Dylan. Your legacy lives on.

Are you a grieving parent that has lost your child? Or maybe grieving in general? In my book "George's Compass: How to Navigate Grief" I go through the process and how to heal from such sorrow.
